Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory supports Table Mountain

Leon Jamarie - 9 November 2011

With less than two days to go before voting closes and the announcement of the New7Wonders of Nature, the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory has come out in full support of our campaign and has urged South Africans to vote for Table Mountain.

The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory yesterday endorsed the campaign on its website. Nelson Mandela, who along with Vote for Table Mountain Ambassadors FW de Klerk and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, is Founder of the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory. Table Mountain played a significant role while he was incarcerated on Robben Island. He was quoted on 5 June 1998, while declaring Table Mountain as part of the Cape Peninsula National Park, as saying: “To us on Robben Island, Table Mountain was a beacon of hope. It represented the mainland to which we knew we would one day return.”

Voting closes this Friday at 13h07. Do you know that it has been estimated that should Table Mountain become one of the New7Wonders of Nature, it will not only contribute R1.4-billion to the economy, but also create approximately 11 000 jobs? Help make this a reality before time runs out. Vote now:
