Being a responsible traveller doesn’t only mean conserving natural sites today, but also preserving them for future generations. And if ever there was a natural site in our backyard worth preserving, it’s our very own international celebrity, Table Mountain.

As you may know, we’ve been running the “Table Mountain is a natural winner!” competition on Facebook and Flickr to find the most beautiful photographs of Table Mountain as part of our campaign to secure a place for South Africa’s iconic mountain among the New7Wonders of Nature. We were blessed with so many spectacular images and ever since entries closed on Thursday, February 10, judges have had quite a hard time picking their five favourite submissions! Without further delay, we are very happy to announce our winners ...

True, Table Mountain is a stunner absolutely deserving of a place as one of the New7Wonders of Nature. But our mountain is going to have to share the limelight with six other natural wonders, which are, in all likelihood, just as lovely.
Twenty-seven natural wonders are competing with Table Mountain for a spot in the top seven, and when you vote for our mountain online, you’ll be asked to tick boxes for all seven of your favourites.

If you haven’t yet heard, Cape Town’s Table Mountain is in the running to be one of the New7Wonders of Nature. This is a once-in-2 500-years chance to put the mountain on the map and the tourism implications for Cape Town are not to be scoffed at.
The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were determined a long time ago – by just one person. In 500 BC Philon of Byzantium decided that the Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Colossus of Rhodes and Lighthouse of Alexandria were the greatest wonders on earth.
